I want to defend it, because Delphine said this in print and made it sound like a compliment and it has been quoted at me four times since.

It is burnt. It is burnt the same amount every day, from a machine nobody admits to maintaining, and it has tasted like this since before I started. You can set a watch by it. I have come in at two in the morning after a bad show and had a cup that was exactly as bad as the one I had at nine the previous morning, and there is something in that I am not going to be able to say without sounding like Dale.

Say it like me. It is a constant. A building that gets one thing wrong identically forever is a building that is paying attention to something.

The machine is maintained. It is maintained to the specification it was delivered with. The specification is the problem and it is not a fault.

I stand by the sentence. Bad in a specific direction is a compliment. It means somebody decided something, even if the somebody was a factory in 1974.
