Song my father had on a reel, no title, possibly not commercial

Taking Sal's advice and giving you the wrong details instead of the right ones.

Reel-to-reel, quarter inch, the box was green and had a hardware store's name printed on it rather than a label's. Two men singing, not harmonising, more like taking turns. A dog barks about a minute in and nobody stops. My father said it was recorded in somebody's kitchen in Kentucky and that one of the men was his cousin, which he also said about a number of other things.

I have had it in my head for thirty years and I have never heard it anywhere else.

The dog is the detail. A dog that nobody stops for means it was one take and they were not coming back, and that narrows it more than you would think.

Green box with a hardware store on it is a Kentucky tell. Those were sold as blanks out of general stores across four counties and people recorded over them for decades. We have a shelf of them. None are catalogued because none of them say anything on the spine.

Winifred is going to say this is not a system and she is right, but I am going to go through that shelf looking for a dog.

If you find it I will drive down for it.

Do not drive down. If we find it we will put it on the air and you can hear it the way he did.
